Uniden just released firmware 1.24 for the Uniden R7. This is a minor update to fix some bugs and make a few small improvements. Performance, filtering, and features are otherwise unchanged.
You can download the latest firmware directly from Uniden’s website.
Here’s a quick run-through of the 5 changes and improvements that 1.24 brings:
Maximum Volume Level Increased
Some people complained that the R7 wasn’t loud enough at maximum volume so now the volume can go even higher. Instead of going from 0-6, the volume levels can now go from 0-8.
Arrow Voice Bug Fixed
There was a bug with voice alerts where sometimes only the direction was spoken, but not the radar band, or it would keep repeating the same alert. Now voice alerts should work properly when detecting and alerting to a signal.
Simultaneous radar and RLC/speed cam alert bug fix
When detecting a speedcam or redlight camera simultaneously while detecting a radar signal, the R7 would previous skip alerting to the radar signal. Now the detector will alert to the speedcam / RLC ahead and then resume alerting to the radar signal.
K Block bug fixed
K Block is a feature that helps the R7 filter out false alerts from Hondas and Acuras. There was a bug where punchthroughs would sometimes happen and you’d get an alert anyways. This was the case if MRCD was enabled. Now the K Block feature will work properly while MRCD is enabled.
Power off by press and holding power button for 2 sec
To power off the detector, you now have to press and hold the power button for 2 sec. This is to avoid accidental poweroffs if you accidentally press the power button while messing with the detector or changing settings.

Hi, the R3 needs an update, I got hit last night by KA in Florida as I was leaving the airport…the R3 did not even go off, not sure if I want to buy the R7 anymore.

Sorry to hear about the ticket! I’d recommend posting about it on RDF and also including your settings (especially the Ka segmentation options you’ve chosen), letting people know if it alerts to other Ka band alerts, and so on. This way people can help you troubleshoot. https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?forums/169/
Thank you for the info Vortex. I was really hoping they will address the arrow color inconsistency.
Has false signal auto lockout been added yet? If not, any idea when it will be added?

Not yet. I’ve asked too, but haven’t gotten an answer back yet, so I don’t know when it’ll be available.
Does this firmware/unit still have a lot of false alerts? I have been using a passport 8500 x50 forever and its time to upgrade, however it never goes off unless there is really radar nearby and im reading that more current units have this problem. I live in Los Angeles and don’t care for the cloud option…I want something reliable, high performance, with the least amount of false alerts like my old x50. I was originally looking at the R3 but love the idea of arrows. Would you still recommend this unit? BTW, love your channel…super informative!!!
?
I do not. It’s all about the settings. I used the ones the Vortex guy showed as his. It’s mainly about K band for false alerts for me. I have that at 40%. Then I mark (mute) the ones I found on my usual routes. Last night I installed the blend mount (R3 clip) and ran the wiring kit from Uniden to tap into my fuse box to give a clean look (no cigarette plug yay!).
Hi, I got the R7 last week, base almost sole on the information I found on your website. You have done an excellent job. What I haven’t seen you mention lately was the firware update for the R7 to auto learn false signals. Any idea when that may happen (you said some where a patent had to expire).
Neve rmind I see you answered it up above.
Hi there, excellent videos and information Sir. I have upgraded to the newest firmware on the R7 and yet I still get the GPS error on startup. Are you still getting these as well? This is the only frustrating issue I have with this.
Thanks!

hm I’m not sure what the GPS error is. I take it your detector has a clean view of the sky through your windshield? If it keeps happening, you might want to contact Uniden customer support. https://www.rdforum.org/index.php?threads/80726/
I watched your video tests of various R7 units (including a beta version you had) and saw some inconsistencies in the “stealth” capabilities of different units of the same model. Any definitive word or idea what caused this? Has an update to fix this been released?

I have no idea still and there haven’t been any changes made by Uniden since.
Thanks! Please keep us posted if you do hear anything about this stealth “phenomenon”….I know you will! I was about to pull the trigger on the R7 but would like to have this issue resolved or explained (by Uniden) before I do, now.
I just received my R7 and it came preloaded with V1.24. I’m getting the GPS error message when powering on the unit after it has been off for a while. Seems to happen every time and the only way to correct it is to power it off and back on.
I’ve turned it on and off multiple times (after the initial first power on) and it locks on to GPS every time.
It’s in the same location as where my R3 was and there is nothing obstructing it besides the suction cup mount that comes with the detector.
Pretty annoying. I am going to try to reload the firmware and see if that has any effect. If not, I’ll have to exchange it for another one.
